"Two Straight" Is Cry ... BEAVERS CONFIDENT AS FINALS START Those OHA intermediate cham- pionship-bound Sundridge Beavers, who, like the North Bay Black Hawks, have faced a steady diet of hockey this season, make their regular playoff invasion at Memorial Gardens tonight. Bucko McDonald's defending DHA titleholders are determined to slap down Pete Palangio's Black Hawks and gain a firm stranglehold on the best-of-three championship finals. The Beavers are highly favored to oust the Tribe again this season and cop the new W.B. Gorman Memorial Trophy, which is up for competition for the first time. Black Hawks, who showed real power in eliminating Canada Packers in the semi-finals after the double-blue opened with a 10-4 win, figure to give it all they have in an effort to foil the confident Sundridge crew. Black Hawk fans are counting on their team's steady month-long stand in senior hockey which has oiled them to peak efficiency, as the big asset against the highly- rated Beavers. Their jousts with strong squads like Sudbury Miners, Mclntyre Macmen and Toronto Marlboros has made a world of difference. They proved themselves in the semi-finals by coming through with the chips on the table, rallying from behind a one-game deficit to lace Packers twice and grab the marbles. The series with Sundridge should be a terrific one. There isn't much to choose between the teams and Sundridge have the edge in man- power having three lines ready plus four defencemen and a crack goal- tender in Wardie Schade. The rivalry between the clubs is intense. Fans can still remember Jast year's hotly-contested battles, of which featured brawls and fisticuffs. In one contest last season all the players of both teams .went at it hammer-and-tongs. There is still a hostile feeling existing between the squads and though it hasn't yet exploded, anything can happen in this series. Tonight's game is the key game of the set. A terrific crowd is expected to jam its way into Memorial Gardens to witness the clash between the deadly rivals. Sundridge boast two of the highest scorers during the regular campaign in Mye Sedore, who led the circuit with 56 points, and speed- demon Hugh Christie, who rifled in 29 goals among his 53 point output. Black Hawks' top men are Dave Morland, one of the best goalgetters in the district, who shot in 30 goals to tie Frankie Ringler as the highest goal-scorer in the DHA regular schedule and Bill Dwyer. Dwyer and Morland were the team's highest scorers with 50 points each. Two of the younger firebrands, 19-year-old Ken McNally and 20-year-old Cliff Ryan were up among the top Braves with 49 and 45 points respectively. ICE CHIPS: On the season's record, Sundridge go into tonight^ contest with a slight edge, havjt&t been victorious three times out of Lloyd Hinsberger (Promising Young Defenceman) six clashes with Pete Palangio's Braves this year . . . The Tribe have won two tussles with the Sundridgers and the other was a 4-4 overtime draw in Sundridge . . . The series with Sundridge brings to mind that historic wild fist- swinging duel between the teams last season in which everyone on the ice participated. The PA announcer threw on a God Save The King platter but as the final notes were dying away, players of both teams went at it again and it was impossible to restore order for nearly 15 minutes . . . By the way, Black Hawks seemed to relish the rugged going in that famous clash for they dusted off the powerful Sundridge warriors 13-5 that night . . . Pete Palangio's pucksters will sorely miss the services of pesky Chick Cecchini, the ball-of-fire right winger who won all-star acclaim. Chick will spend the rest of the season with a cast on his broken ankle. a Officials for tonight's game are Cy Kerr and Jack Dunbar.
