PREFACE When things were under way for a celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the little log church at Sand Lake, I was asked to put together a brief history of the church and surrounding area. I knew it would be a pleasant task, only thing there were so few to ask for information. Fortunately Mrs. Bob Mason had kept a lot of records, even to having them printed and they will be used. Too, quite a few stories handed down about local people, also the building of the church. There will no doubt be some mistakes, in such histories there usually are. But please remember that the church was built before any of us were born, and forty years ago no one thought that history that could have been supplied then, is now not possible to find. It may seem that more mention is made of some families than others, and again I will say that only the information at hand can be used. So with what information that has been written down, other information whether second, third or even fourth hand, efforts will be made to have this history ready for the big doings this summer of 1984. And may every one taking part enjoy their work, and feel proud of their accomplishments. So the author thanks all those who have helped with a special thank you to Mrs. Bob Mason for having the foresight to put so much of the doings of earlier years on paper. To Bessie and Frank Mason, who most of all can take the blame for having this book written. To Dorothy Wilson for not only supplying some missing parts, but for writing them down as well. To Wes Mason for his fine poem, also to Major Arthur T. Robinson for his poem. Last but not least, to Bessie for her story about the first summer time Christmas service. So while my name will likely be noted as the author, this could not have been finished without the help of these names I have mentioned. Ralph Bice.
