Quirt Family William Thomas and Susan Quirt moved to Machar Township Settling in Con 24 & 25 in February 1884. They moved from Luther Township, 5 miles from Arthur, Ont. They had 10 children. They journeyed by trains from Arthur to Bracebridge (end of train line) Then by bobsled drawn by 2 hrses. There were stakes on the sides & ends, which were concerned with blankets to help keep the family warm. There they first landed they stated for a while at the Bummer's roost, an early type hotel. Then first house was close to the stone school #7. (built later). When they arrived No school, No Church & few neighbours close by.
