Description
This is a history project about South River and its surrounding communities. The text is located within a orange duo-tang. The project begins with a general introduction of why, when, and how settlement began in South River and the surrounding townships. The project proceeds with 10 individual sections, each including a history and map of settlement of South River or one of the surrounding communities. The 10 sections are: Bray Lake & Hamilton Lake, 5 Mile Block, Mandeville, Mecunoma, Midford, Rye, Stewart Bay, Uplands, Wattenwyl and South River. After these 10 sections are short descriptions of the South River Agricultural Society, The Independent Order of foresters, and Lumber Companies. The final section details the beginning of newspaper publishing in South River and surrounding area, including some excerpts from the papers.
Notes
This project was begun when the South River-Machar Union Public Library received a grant from Summer Canada '81, the Employment Development Branch, and Canada Employment and Immigration Commission. Sherri Hawthorne, Anita Peters and Shelley Lacombe worked on the project through 1981 and 1982. The third page of the project is referred to as 'INTRODUCTION' and continues on to page 4.
