The National Wood Manufacturing Co. Ltd. by all accounts led a short life from 1914 to 1918 and ended in bankruptcy.
The Co. specialised in rotary cut wood products such as veneers, broom handles, baskets & wood specialties. The saw mill section produced lumber as well.
The factory was located on the North side of Ottawa Ave. on the South bank of the South River, with the the Standard Chemical Plant being further East on the same bank.
One of the Principlas in the company was Mr. A. Howard.
Local rumour has it that Ranger Tom Wattie collected thin wooden panels from National wood and carried them back to Algoquin Park where they were used as Tom Thomson's canvas boards.
Only a few concrete foundations remain today.
