South River's main street is of course Ottawa Ave. and this view is looking West from the G.T.R Railwway Crossing.
The large building on the right sporting all the verandas is the King Edward Hotel. By the time of this phot,o the name would have been changed to the "New Queens Hotel".
The stationary that Tom Thomson is known to have used in several letters was from this hotel.
Years later, the name was changed again to the Norland Hotel and subsequently it was destroyed by fire.
The absence of the Old Queens Hotel on the left side of the photo support the typewritten date of 1912 as the Old Queen's destroyed by fire in 1909...
