The man is not rolling the log up the incline - it is being held in place by cables. There is no way, from his position, that he could be moving the log. It may be that he's positioning it for the competition. Hard to say.

I don`t know the name of this event, but I have a picture of my Dad, Jack Russell, dioing this with his horses. Lorne Paige may remember this event. I will ask him.
