- Notes
- This picture is from the Robertson family collection of early pictures of the Ahmic Harbour area. It presents a particular enigma because no existing house in the Harbour or surrounding area resembles this home. Further, no one remembers such a home.
It is included in this summary to stimulate discussion. In this regard, in his discussions with John Macfie, Arnold Macdonald, a son of Art and Josephine (Moore) McDonald recalled that his parents had purchased a brick home, built a major addition and operated a boarding house. In fact, Art and Josephine did purchase the former boarding house operated by Horatio and Mary Clark on the south side of Ahmic Street in 1907. Further, they built a second home adjoining the first home.
Could this home be the original home built by the Clarke family? Is the building to the right a barn associated with the Samuel Ritter home (later known as Johnston’s barn)? Is the building barely visible on the tree line at the far left of the picture one of the John Croswell outbuildings?
