- James Croswell officially acquired part of Block A midway between the historic Croswell Boarding house and John Street in 1912. At the time of the 1911 census, however, James and Matilda Jane (Lewis) Croswell and family were already shown as living on part of Block A on the north side of Ahmic Street. James and Matilda built a large frame home on the property.
In the picture at right from the early 1920’s, the home built by James and Matilda can be seen in the middle right of the picture. At the far right of the picture is the former Croswell boarding house (and the home of William and Pearl Wager Croswell at the time of this photo). At left is the ‘Neely’ home.
In the picture Kennedy, Edna and Jack Newell (children of Charles Newell and Olive Kennedy and grandchildren of Lillian) are standing at the corner of John and Ahmic Streets.
