- Notes
- In this picture are William and Florence Mary (Croswell) Millin in front of their home on the easterly part of Block A on the north side of Ahmic Street.
The first transaction related to the house appears to be in 1898 when Charles and Phoebe Croswell sold the home to Jules Brown and Edmund Clavis (variously spelled Clavir). The home must have stood for a number of years prior to the initial purchase by Brown and Clavis since it features in the earliest known picture of Ahmic Harbour from the early 1890’s. Brown and Clavis transferred the home to Barbara Annie Arthurs, possibly as part of the transaction related to Brown and Clavis’ purchase of the general store on the corner of Ahmic and George Streets (Lot 9).
In 1899, the property transferred to William Millin who would appear to have already been living in the home since he was listed as Post Master in the transfer – and acted as Post Master from the home from 1898 to 1902.
Florence Mary Croswell was the daughter of John Croswell jr. and his wife Susannah Hammond. Florence and William married in 1897. They had three children while living on the above site: Lula, Sydney and Lillian. Between 1901 and 1903 the family moved to Rocanville, Saskatchewan.
After 1902, the home was owned by Edward Bennett and then Moses Johnston from Maple Island, but from as early as 1911 it was occupied by the Richard and Emily (Harris) Shane and the Heinz (Henry) and Gertrude (Shane) King families. In 1915 the property officially transferred to Richard Shane and Henry King.
In the 1920’s the property transferred to William Newell (no relation to John Henry Newell and Charles Newell).
