- The Wanita (formerly the Cyclone built in Ahmic Harbour in 1896)
It was built by William Millin and the Croswell brothers. It was 44 tons, 64 feet long and 12 feet in beam with a draught of 5 feet 8 inches. It was owned by A. A. Agar. The boat burned at Burks Falls in 1911 and was rebuilt as a tug in 1913. It again burned in 1933 in Ahmic Harbour, its original place of birth.
There is an interesting story about the original launch of the Cyclone. Apparently the boat capsized on launch. Efforts to right the boat failed. A reward of $100, an enormous sum in those days, was offered for anyone who could right the boat.
The reward was claimed by two lumberjacks. Apparently they ran a ‘decking line’ over and around the capsized boat. They wound the other end of the line around a log which they had notched gear-like at each end. The log was supported at each end by large stumps. Using cant hooks the men slowly turned the log, winding the rope around it and slowly righting the boat.
