Description
The Historical Society is particularly indebted to Waitstill ‘Waity’ Croswell, Joyce Crossman, Jack Crossman, Orma Quinn, Lynn Abbot Lennox, the Wellever family. Richard Moore, Norma Hill-Watt and the late John Macfie for the photos and associated descriptions.

Notes
In 1892, a large new, brick-clad hotel, the Cliffeburne, was built on the northeast corner of Ahmic and George Streets (between Ahmic and Queen Streets where the Harbour Tavern now stands). The picture above shows the brick hotel as it looked around 1908. Next to it (to the left) is Jules Brown’s store. The original frame store seen in the earlier picture has been replaced by a brick clad building. John Henry Newell bought the store in 1920. The picture shows the arrival of the ‘Armour’. Note the people in their finery.
