George W. Deacon was born on October 23, 1920. He joined the Royal Navy at a young age and was only nineteen at the time of the Battle of the River Plate.
George was the Honourary Assistant Secretary and Archivist of the HMS Ajax and River Plate Veterans Association. He visited the Town of Ajax for the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate and attended his street dedication at that time.
George died two years after his visit to Ajax in the spring of 2001 when he went into acute renal failure. He was eighty years old.
