During the Battle of the River Plate Henry Buggey was one of the youngest members of the ship’s company at 18 years old as Boy Seaman 1st Class. Throughout the action he was a crew member of the foremost gun turret. After his service in the Royal Navy Henry worked as a police officer in his home town.
The ceremony and tree dedication was held at Deer Creek Golf and Country Club on July 2, 1998. It was attended by Henry and his wife Irene, members of the community, Mayor and Council, employees of the Town of Ajax and employees of the Country Club. Henry served alongside his brother Sidney on HMS Ajax.
In 2001 Sidney’s plaque was placed beside Henry’s tree and plaque to officially dedicate the street to both brothers. - Geographic Coverage
