An active member of the Felixstowe Fuchsia Society, Jim asked that special varieties be produced to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate. The hybridizer created an Ajax, Exeter, Achilles, Graf Spee and Altmark Fuchsia. Upon his visit he presented the town with a plaque, from the Felixstowe Town Council given to him by the mayor of his hometown in Suffolk, and the `Ajax' Fuchsia.
