- Description
- A black and white photo of cordite being measured and bagged.
- Notes
- The 40-mm shells were assembled on Line 1 of the plant. To ensure they achieved the required height before exploding, the casings were loaded with a measured amount of cordite propellant. The ascent of the projectile was controlled by the amount of cordite used. The cordite was placed in different coloured bags, red, white and blue, to indicate load amount. Of the three eight hour shifts, one loaded white bags, a second red bags and the third blue bags. The shifts were named accordingly.
