- Notes
- Denis O'Connor arrived here about 1831 from Ireland. He and his wife, Mary O'Leary (cousin of Timothy O'Leary who settled in the Audley area in 1832), built a field stone home in 1845 on what is now Rossland Road E. in Ajax and had three children. The home still stands and remails in the O'Connor family. Their son Denis, became the Archbishop of Toronto. The Archbishop Denis O'Connor Catholic High Scholl in Ajax is named in his honour. After Mary's death, Denis married Bridget Callaghan of Albion Township and they had ten more children.
