Regular Meeting Sept. 25/67 The meeting opened with the singing of O’Canada. Guests and members were welcomed by the President Mrs. Janis Mitchell. The new officers were installed by Mrs. Richard Donald, president of the Oshawa & district Home & School Council. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Mrs. Barker and approved as read by the Pres. Mrs. Mitchell. Treasurers report was given by Mrs. Armstrong Bank balance of $17.43, cash on hand $9.15 making a total of $26.58. Moved by Mrs. Armstrong that the report be accepted & seconded by Mrs. Long. Mr. Long, program chairman announced that Mr. Bigwinn, principle of a school in West Hill would be giving us a talk on education among the Indians. A bazaar will be held Nov 25, 2-5pm. It was stated that a letter had been written to Mr. Murray Russell re the possibility of removal of the skating rink. Our new teachers were introduced & each replied with a brief outline of their previous experience. Mr. Dunning, is the new principle, teaching Grades VII & VIII & Mrs. Aikie Grades II & III. Presentation of an engraved silver tray was made to Mrs. Bruce as a retirement gift by Mrs. McCane, chairman of the School Board. Room count was made - 21 present and Mr. Shipman’s class receiving the Banner. Mrs. Long introduced the speaker of the evening, Mrs. Dulhanty who discussed the importance of starting reading at an early age and encouraging children to become interested in books. She pointed out that reading should be most enjoyable. She brought samples of books available at the library.
