- St. Luke's Anglican Church, a landmark on Highway 5 at Palermo, was built in 1845 by William Peacock. He also did the beautiful carving inside the designated heritage building. The church held its first service on March 11, 1846.
Mr. Peacock was also interested in music at the church and he donated a melodeon to accompany singing as well as playing it himself when no one else stepped forward. - Notes
- William Peacock had been a seaman and then sea captain before retiring in England. He came to Halton in 1832 with his wife and six of their eventual eleven children. They also owned a homestead in Merton. William and Harriet are buried in the St. Luke's Anglican Church cemetary at Palermo.
