Description
Anson Buck was born near Palermo in 1833 and served the area as a medical doctor for 54 years. His grandfather, Philip Buck was a soldier with Butler's Rangers. Philip and his comrades were captured and held prisoner in Philadelphia. Their property was confiscated, leaving their wives and children in desperate straits. The women decided to see refuge in Canada, hoping that by some miracle they could get there.

The story of their journey, the people that helped them and their settlement in Canada is provided here in the two pages accompanying this photograph of Dr. Buck. The pages also tell about the life and work of Dr. Buck, as well as his family.

Did you know he volunteered as an assistant surgeon for American Civil War service in the Northern Army Medical Corps with Dr. Clarkson Freeman of Milton? The two doctors spent near four years in the service and saw the surrender of General Lee's army.

Dr. Buck's medical practice included partners: Dr. William Street, Dr. Isaac Burkholder, Dr. Milton McCrimmon (for 30 years) and Dr. F.S. Mowbray. Dr. Buck specialized in the surgical treatment of club feet.

Please read the accompanying pages as there are too many stories and too much information to capture here. Click on "Pages" to then "select" to read each page.
