Description
Handwritten on the back of this postcard, a neighbour has written, "The original Snider house on back concession near 9th line." See this in the 2nd image in this record. No date for the photograph or post card is provided.

This Oakville house address is 1481 Burnhamthorpe Road East, near Ninth Line, the area once called Snider's Corners. The house is a designated heritage building.

The Crown Patent for all 200 acres of Lot 6, Concession 2 NDS was given to Hannah Young in 1808. It is known that Michael Snider bought the land in 1810 and after his death, the land passed to son David Snider in 1826. This farmhouse was built for David and his family.

A link to the Oakville-Trafalgar Archives page featuring construction detail of this house is provided for your further information, the Mississauga Heritage link (the area east of Ninth Line is today in Mississauga) tells you more of the family history, and history of Snider's Corners.

A new edition of the study of the Snider family in America has been prepared by Mr. Howard J. Simkover in 2018. Mr. Simkover invites interested people to read and download his documented, authoritative history which he has openly placed in Google Drive, linked here. The history is so large it is in two parts.

Mr. Simkover started his research because an old painted sign reading, "GA Snider Photographer" on a building side in Ottawa, Ontario near Bank and Slater Streets caught his eye. Wondering about this 120 year old sign lead him to research and share this incredible family history.

After the initial publication of his work in 2015, members of the family have commented and contributed information. It is also thought that the sign in Ottawa will be maintained by the current building owner.
Notes
The Town of Oakville's "back concession" was renamed Burnhamthorpe Road as of January 1, 1967.

Burnhamthorpe Road east of 9th Line became part of Mississauga in 1974. Thus, Heritage Mississauga has an excellent write-up on Snider's Corners, linked here for your information.
