This is S.S. #3, Trafalgar, or Munn's School. The teacher was Maud Norton, and the date is June 1905. This school photo likely includes Eckhardt and Charlotte Wettlaufer, a brother and sister whose family moved to Palermo in 1905. It also includes Ethel Olive May Tuck, later Smith, age 14. Ethel is in the centre of the third row, she is wearing a long-sleeved white blouse and has a large bow in her hair.
(The descendents of Ethel also have a possible date of 1903 for the photograph.)
The trustees listed on the slate and in the photograph are L. Hager, J. Dearing, J. Wettlaufer, A. Inglehard. - Notes
- Maud Norton was the daughter of Theophlas (also spelled in Census material as Theophilus or Theopholes) and Ann Norton of Esquesing Township. Maud's father was also a teacher, as were her two sisters. Maud was 21 years old in 1905. We believe she is the young woman with spectacles in the centre of the top row.
Maud attended Georgetown High School, taught in Glen Williams, at Palermo and she and her sister, Ida, taught at the Espanola Continuation School where she was principal at the time of her death from diptheria. Miss Norton worked to educate not only children at school but also Sunday schools, and adults in night classes. - Date of Original
