An October 1960 "Trafalgar Day Special" insert in the local newspaper, Trafalgar Journal - The Home Newspaper of Oakville and Trafalgar, has an item "Volunteer Firefighters Mark 21st Anniversary of Acton(sic) Action". The Trafalgar Township Historical Association has this print newspaper section in their archives.
Information from this article: Trafalgar Township's fire department began in October 1939 when the township council purchased a fire pumper and housed it in a rented garage on the estate of the late Col. W.F. Eaton, Lakeshore Highway East. Volunteers were employees of area private estates - a good arrangement as they members were always available and could be be alerted by siren or telephone.
They purchased an American Marsh Class A pumper with pumping capacity of 625 gallons per minute in 1956. A salvage van was added in 1958.
This Lakeshore Road East brigrade was known in 1960 as Brigade No. 2, headed by Fire Chief George Wright.
In February 1951, a fire hall was built on Eighth Line south of the Queen Elizabeth Way giving the brigade their own quarters.
The western portion of Trafalgar Township is served by Brigade No. 1, formed in 1925 in the village of Bronte. At time of this newspaper item, 1960, the Chief is Grant Bray, son of the former Fire Chief, Freeman Bray.
In October 1959, a new fire hall was built on Rebecca Street in Trafalgar Township, to serve as the headquarters of the No. 1 brigade.
No. 2 Brigade used a Bickle - Seagrave pumper in 1940, but in 1959 they purchased an American-Marsh pumper with a 625 gallon per minute pumping capacity on a 1959 Mercury tilt cab truck. They also have a modern salvage unit and rescue van, according to this 1960 article. - Subject(s)
