50th Anniversary - from Palermo (Social Notes - found in Herbert Inglehart's scrapbook): Fifty years ago, young Rev. Geo. Abbs married Miss Susannah Inglehart, daughter of the late John Inglehart, of Palermo, Ontario Since then, he has
been preaching steadily until a few years ago, he superannuated at Port Perry, Ontario County. He is now nearing his eightieth year. Frequently Mr. And Mrs. Abbs have visited Palermo and he preached to the Methodist people here. Many old friends remember them for years and they wish the couple many more years of strength, health and happiness.
The Port Perry Observer of September 26th says: " On Tuesday, September 17th, the Rev. and Mrs. George Abbs celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage at the residence of their son-in-law, F.W. Barry, here. The event was of considerable interest to their many friends who gathered from Toronto, Hamilton, St. Catherines, Palermo, Queensville, and other places to offer congratulations to the worthy and happy bride and groom. The dinner was largely a family affair. W.C., H.H. and P.J. Inglehart, brothers of the bride, with
their wives, were present, also three sons of Mr. Abbs accompanied by their wives, and a married daughter and son-in-law , as well as many others. A reception in the evening from five-thirty until ten p.m. was attended by many of the friends of the venerable couple. After refreshments, impromptu speeches were made by Revs. Copeland and Whitlock, Wm. Ross, M.P., W.C. Inglehart and C.W. Jones, the latter presenting an address together with a purse of gold. The venerable recipient made a suitable reply, his remarks being happy And judicious, were well received and enthusiastically applauded. During the evening a telegram of congratulations was received and read from the Hon. E.J. Davies, a lifelong friend of Mr. and Mrs. Abbs. The proceedings were brought to a close by music appropriate to the occasion. Many beautiful and valuable presents were received and a delightful evening spent."

obituary of Wilson, Rev. David, Sept. 22 1899:
".............We may as well here give the ministerial record of the oldest and most venerable of the Methodist ministers now living: Rev. Thomas
Webster, D. D. Newbury, entered the work in 1833.
Rev. George Abbs, Grimsby, 1840. Rev. James Gardner, D. D., Belleville, 1841...................These are all Superannuated old men now. They all well served their day and generation".

closed in June 1881 by the Rev. George Abbs, the presiding elder of the district because of the atrophy of funds and enthusiasm.
