- Studio photograph taken in Topeka, Kansas, in 1868. The mother of the siblings, Amanda Mary (Oakley) Forman had divorced her husband after the American Civil War, Major John A. Foreman, Jr., in Topeka in 1866. Amanda died in October 1869 and her sisters vowed to raise Frances and Charles. Charles lived with Elizabeth in Grant Township, Manhattan, Kansas for a short time only, before going to live with his faterh in Muskogee Indian Territory at the age of eight. These years of loss were hard for Fannie but she pursued an education, first at the Episcopalian Church school for girls in Topeka, Bethany College, then to State College, Manhattan and State Normal School, Leavenworth. She was eligible to teach and played the piano but married Theo Lacy on November 12, 1874 in Muskogee.
