- In this interview, Bernard Rich speaks about his experiences as a pilot during the Second World War. Bernard explains that he joined the airforce when he was 19 years old because he couldn’t find work in Quebec City with him being so close to the draft age. After working as a flight instructor, he was stationed in southern England and flew priority wounded back from the field to there. He was then stationed in India and Burma and there experience many of the region’s challenging conditions. Bernard also explains that following the defeat of Japan he helped many transport many of the POWs from the region and that the condition of these men made a great impression on him. Sadly, Bernard returned home to some unfortunate circumstances but was later hired by TransCanada Airlines, which is now AirCanada, as a pilot to continue his love of flying.
