His battle with cancer in recent years showed his courage in facing life chall- enges with a smile. Despite the pain, David kept up his fight and stayed strong until the end. David met the love of his life, Jovaita, while living in Montréal. It was love at first sight, and they supported each other every step of the way. Together, they had two children: Wade & Neil. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to David. He loved a quiet evening with his family, listening to music, volunteering in his community and watching hockey. He had an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily activ- ities. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. So, rather, imagine these words are embossed on archival ivory paper, expertly double matted and framed. Now, we can discuss a man with a keen eye for design and attention to detail. Walter was born in Marburg, Germany, his family having recently immigrated from Lithuania. At the age of 4, his family immigrated again, this time to Canada. He grew up in Welland, Ontario, and completed his Economics degree from Brock University. Walter was a Bell employee for 26 years, and pursued his love of the arts in his post-retired life as a home renovator. He called Oakville home for over 40 years, raising his family, and having many life-long friendships. Walter had a gift for making things beautiful. This could be seen in his perfectly maintained landscaping, his meticulous paint jobs, and in his professionally framed prints that still grace the walls of the homes of many of his family and friends. He also curated many collections, from stamps and coins to antique china. He did all things with skill and perfection, a trait he likely inherited from his father who was a carpenter. Walter was inquisitive and detailed in his quest to gain knowledge. He was the man who would read an entire manual or search the internet for information. If you were in the market for a new car or computer, he was the one you went to for advice. Walter also loved travelling, some of his favourite destinations included Europe and South America. Most importantly, Walter will be most remembered for the relationships he had with his family and friends. He was a supportive and devoted husband to his wife, Sharon, and a loving and doting father to his son, Michael and his daughter-in-law, Gina. For the last 11 years, Walter's grandsons, Will and Joe, were his pride and joy. He was also a great friend to many. He was a gracious host, always ready to pour his guest a glass of well-researched wine. He had a quick laugh and a witty sense of humour. He will be dearly missed by his very supportive family and friends. Until we meet again, Walter. I'm sure you will be waiting for us, with well-appointed furniture, the latest Benjamin Moore neutral, a glass of wine on hand and a big smile as you hold the door wide open. At a future time, a private celebration of Walter's life will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation.
