Oakville Sea Rangers chose Thinking Day for their first enrolment, and were hostesses to members of the Grew of S.R.S. Princess Royal, Toronto and their Skipper Miss Beveridge and Mate Miss Kirby. Mrs. Potter from S.R.S. . Magnificent, Port Credit, was also a guest. After the ceremony for "Divis- fons" at which trumpeters from the Princess Royal sounded the General Salute, Miss Beveridge enrolled three Sea Rangers, Shir- ley Wilson, Pat Brett and Jeanne McNaughton. 1st. Mate Miss Eve Armour gave a running commen- tary on the proceedings for the benefit of the Guides and parents so they would understand what was going on. The Oakville Sea Rangers will welcome applications for mem- bership from any girls between the ages of 15 and 21. Any inter- ested parties may apply through any Sea Ranger, or through the Skipper, Mrs. McKinley, 1st. Mate Miss Armour or 2nd. Mate Miss Reiffenstein. Any girl at present in a Guide Company who wishes to go up to Sea 'Rangers this summer should approach her Guide Captain, who will make an application on her behalf. The programme under the direc- tion of Dist. Capt. Joyce Yarde, opened with the presentation of Proficiency Badges and Service Stars by the District Commission- er Mrs. W. McDowell, to the following: 1st. Company: Service Stars, 3 yr, June Burrell, 2 yr, Carol Broadbent; Badges, Horsewoman and Rabbit Keeper, Debbie Gray- don; First Aid and 2nd. Class, Dianne Smith; Athlete' Badge, June Burrell. 2nd. Company: 2nd. Class and First Aid, Dianne Spurgeon; 2nd. Class, Ann Carney; 2nd. Class, Elizabeth Storey, Nancy Myers, Marlene Purdy and Hostess Bad- ge; Hostess Badge, Joan Browne. Niagara Area Commissioner, Mrs. Deadman, presented First Class Badges to June Burrell, 1st. Company, and Margaret Fell, 2nd. Company, and First Class Pins (given by 3rd Company to Guides from that Company going up to Sea Rangers) Patricia Brett, Shirley Wilson, Judy Bayly, Jean McNaughton. We are sorry to report that Marlene Purdy, Debbie Graydon, and Judy Bayly and Dianne Smith, were unable to be present to re- celve their badges due to the all prevalent flu, We also much re- gretted that Div. Commissioner Mrs. H. W. Jaffray was prevented by sickness from attending. The highlight of the presentations was. the award of "Gold Cords" to Caroline Jaffray, formerly of 1st. Company. These Cords were pre- sented by Mrs. Deadman, who stressed the amount of work and interest necessary to attain this award, the highest In Guiding. Following the presentation of Badges, Mrs. Deadman 'spoke on World Friendship, especially in connection with "Thinking Day" and Mrs. A. Douglas, Area Camp Adviser, spoke on Camping, both generally and internationally, and gave an outline of the proposed camps to be held during the com- ing summer. Numbers by the Oakville Dis- trict Choir, under the direction of Miss Joyce Yarde followed, feat- uring the songs to be sung at the Kiwanis Festival next Saturday, March 3. Jill Brown, 2nd. Com- pany, danced an acrobatic mumb- er and the Guide programme finished with a Ceremonial on the "Guide Law" under the dir- ection of Lieut. E. Armour and Miss Yarde. This consisted of a candlelight ceremony in which each of the Laws were represented. by¢a Guide lighting a candle from the one held by the "Spirit of the Guide Law" (Capt. Kay Taylor, 1st. Coy) followed by the Choir singing the "Lord's Prayer." This ceremony concluded the Guide part of the programme, which was then turned over to the new Sea Ranger Crew.
