27 | O akville B eaver | T hursday,January 20,2022 insidehalton.com EVEN, Grace Eleanor January 8, 1923 - January 10, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The family of Eleanor Even is saddened to announce the passing of their 99-year-old mother and grandmother on Monday, January 10th at Sunrise (Senior Living) of Oakville. Eleanor was grateful for her good fortune and a complete life with no regrets. She grew up in Port Credit, Ontario, the beloved child of Fred and Agnes Bemister. Having a sharp mind and strong work ethic, she obtained a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Toronto in 1947. Eleanor married Alexander in 1954 and the newlyweds spent three years in London, Ontario. In 1957 they moved to Oakville, where they raised their daughter Anne and son Jim. While caring for her family, Eleanor worked as a pharmacist - a career that spanned 53 years. She loved to socialize and share stories about her family. There was always a book on the go - history, mysteries, or biographies about royalty. She accompanied Alex to many exciting destinations around the world. Each summer they would travel to their cottage, often working on a building project. They were rarely separated until his passing in 2007. The family sends their warmest thanks to the thoughtful staff at The Kensington Oakville Retirement Residence, the kind nurses and doctors at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and the compassionate palliative care team at Sunrise (Senior Living) of Oakville. Eleanor is loved and remembered by her daughter Anne (Martin), son Jim (Doreen), grandson Derek (Katie), granddaughters Claire and Hannah and their mother, Pam. A celebration of Eleanor's life will be organized at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Oakville Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. We are missing you already, love forever, from your children. Condolences can be made at oakviewfuneral.ca. HOBBS, Doreen ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Doreen passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. She was born December 23, 1936 in Freelton, Ontario. Beloved wife of John Hobbs. Survived by daughter Suzanne, sons Barry and Brian (Karen). Loving grandmother to Myranda, Taylor, Ashley and Jonah and aunt to Donna (Dave), Kathy, Carol, Michael and Jennifer (Jeff). Predeceased by her parents Harry and Winnifred Anderson and sister Dorothy Wyse. Four themes distinguished Doreen's life. First people - she was brought up in a village where she knew everyone and as she moved on it was like she had a mental diary that was updated from time to time keeping track of her friends lives and their children. Second, she was a student all her life starting from the time she attended a one room school, then on to Dundas High and the University of Western Ontario followed by many continuing education courses at the University of Toronto, music groups and visits to the Stratford Festival. Third was the piano. Playing the piano was how she relaxed, but it also helped her pay for university as she played at a Hamilton tap dance studio and in a band that played at a Muskoka resort. At university, she was much in demand to play at fraternity parties. Fourth was sports, mainly bicycling and tennis. She was brought up with a tennis court across the street from her home and it was on a tennis court in the Town of Mount Royal where she and John met. She played at the Oakville Club and was a keen fan of all the tennis tourna- ments and attended the tennis at York many years. Cycling was a feature for holidays - barge and cycle tours in Holland and many years of trips to her favourite cycling area - Hilton Head Island where another passion - bird watching often caused a sudden halt for a sighting. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations to the Stratford Festival or the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family. ELLIOT, Christina ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ We are sad to announce the passing of Christina Annie MacIntyre Elliot on Monday, January 10, 2021 in her 92nd year, beloved wife of recently deceased Alastair Douglas Elliot (2021). She will be greatly missed by daughter Anne Bull (London), son Douglas Elliot and wife Teri (Fonthill), son Graham Elliot and wife Carol (Oakville). She was very fond of grand- children Jonathan, Jillian and Yoshinobu, Jennifer and Aaron, Jaclyn and Kevin, Colin and Lenita, Andrew and Lucy, Christopher, David and Gordon. With her advanced dementia, she might not know the names, but she loved to see photos and hear about the various antics of her great- grandchildren Emily, Claire, Lily and Charles. Our parents emigrated from Scotland to Oakville in 1966, retired to Fergus and later settled in retirement homes in London, Ontario. Mum was both very strong physically and emotionally, who led the family in settling into Canadian life but never forgetting their Scottish heritage. Our parents were part of the Scotia Six (3 couples) that initiated St Andrew dinners and Robbie Burns evenings. Many folks participated and enjoyed the hard work that our mum put into these events. She never hesitated about rolling up her sleeves and getting things done (making cock-a-leekie soup by the gallons etc). Our parents were Scottish country dancers, lawn bowlers and active church members. While dad sang in the choir, mum arranged the flowers for church each Sunday and taught Sunday School for decades in the Hopedale Presbyterian Church. She took great delight in telling people that she was not just a Presbyterian but in fact a Scottish Presbyterian! She was involved in numerous charitable events and had great fun running ladies afternoon badminton sessions. She didn't have a lot of patience for laziness or incompetence, but was a generous and a very kind soul. She was definitely a take charge kind of person. Mum suffered with dementia for the last 6 years but she only required more advanced care the last 3 months. The last year without Dad for her was very difficult, but there is comfort for us in knowing that she is in a better place and that they are together. Cremation has taken place and post Covid our hope is that family can gather from around the world, with an act of remembrance to be arranged. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cremation London & Middlesex, 519-858-2467. OBITUARIES | REMEMBERING THE LIVES OF THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITY A loving person, so gentle and kind; what a wonderful memory you left behind. Long days, long nights, you bore your pain. To wait for a cure, but all in vain. Till God Himself knew what was best. He took you home and gave you rest. In my heart your memory lingers, always tender, fond and true; there's not a day, dear friend, I do not think of you. The rolling stream of life rolls on. But still the vacant chair recalls the love, the voice, the smile of the one who once sat there. There is a link death cannot sever, love and remembrance last forever. 1-800-263-6480 classifieds@metroland.comCLASSIFIEDS OBITUARIES | ANNOUNCEMENTS | JOBS | MARKETPLACE OBITUARIES
