Not to take action at this time would mean the board would exceed maxi- mum portable capacity at WOSS come September, said Frederick Thibeault, general manager of plan- ning. The two-year phased in approach mainly targets the increasing population north of Dundas Street. Here are some of the de- tails of the plan: • Beginning in Septem- ber 2022, new students moving into the area north of Dundas, or coming from other boards, will be redi- rected to TA Blakelock, lo- cated at 1160 Rebecca St. This move will not affect current WOSS students or those graduating from feeder HDSB elementary schools, such as Oodena- wi, Dr. David R. Williams, River Oaks, Falgarwood, Munns, Sunningdale and Palermo in either the En- glish or French Immersion programs. • From 2023 and on- wards, new students and those currently attending River Oaks, Falgarwood, Munns, Palermo and Sun- ningdale (in either the En- glish or French Immer- sion) from development ar- eas north of Dundas, will be redirected to Blakelock upon graduation. • Students attending the WOSS CPP or IB programs will continue at WOSS. • The board will also be implementing an I-STEM (Innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) pro- gram at Blakelock begin- ning in 2023. • Dr. David R. Williams and Oodenawi schools are not impacted by the redi- rection. The redirection plan will remain in place until the new Oakville NE High School opens and a new boundary review process is conducted. The plan, not only off- sets pressure at WOSS, it improves the utilization of TAB, addressing declining enrolment and program- ming concerns, said Thi- beault.Editor's note: This story was updated on Mon- day, Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m. to clarify that the transfer of students to T.A. Blakelock High School affects only students who currently re- side in new developments north of Dundas and those moving into those develop- ments.
