There's a new face at the table. Oakville Councillor Pavan Parmar was selected as the new regional council board member on the Halton Police Services Board. The appointment is effective as of Dec. 9, and follows the resignation of Gary Carr from the board. "It is my honour and privilege to serve on the Halton Police Board where I will have the opportunity to represent our growing and diverse community's needs and best interests. I look forward to work- ing and collaborating with my fellow board members, Halton Regional Police Services, community stakeholders and residents of Halton," said Parmar. The Halton Police Board is a seven- member civilian Board that provides stra- tegic oversight to the Halton Regional Po- lice Service. Under the Police Services Act, the board has legislated responsibility for the police service's operating and capital budgets; strategic planning; policies and priorities. The police board's fundamental respon- sibility is to ensure that adequate and ef- fective police services are provided to the citizens of Halton Region. Parmar was elected to Oakville town council in 2018 as town and regional coun- cillor for Ward 7. Parmar holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University and an MBA degree from the Ted Rogers School of Business at Ryerson University. Her corporate experience includes a role as a consultant with BDO Canada, LLP where she applied her 10-plus years of experience in citizenship and immigration law.
