The Milton incident took place on Dec. 30. Police said a witness called 911. Officers arrived and ad- ministered naloxone to re- vive the female victim, who was unresponsive and not breathing. The substance that caused the overdose in this incident is unknown; how- ever, police suspect it was some kind of opioid. A similar incident oc- curred in Oakville on Jan. 2. Again, a bystander is be- ing credited with getting help for the male victim. Officers arrived quickly and were able to save the individual from the sus- pected opioid overdose, us- ing naloxone. Halton police took to so- cial media on Monday, Jan. 6, to remind residents that street drugs are unpredict- able and those who use drugs should carry nalox- one and should not use alone. In both these recent overdose cases, bystanders were key to getting help for the victim. Police are reminding residents that, in the event of an overdose, they should not run, but rather call 911. Ontario's Good Samari- tan Act will protect the cal- ler from prosecution. Police would not say where in Oakville and Mil- ton these incidents hap- pened, nor would they pro- vide the ages of the victims, citing privacy concerns.
