As the second eldest of five siblings, she is survived by her sisters Ann, Eileen and Christine and her brother Tom. Aunty Mary is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada and the UK. A true Geordie, who never quite lost her accent after 56 years in Canada, Mary hailed from Newcastle Upon Tyne in England. Howay, man! Mary was a 35 year volunteer in Halton. She held a variety of positions during her 25 years with the OTMH Volunteer Association including the HELPP lottery desk on Thursday mornings. There are many family and friends who own a scarf, hat, mug cozy, stuffed animal, or doll made by Mary's talented hands. A long time member of the Church of the Epiphany craft group, her talented fingers also made prayer shawls, pot scrubbers and Christmas ornaments for folks across Halton. If you came to the Hollyberry fair, Mary's smile and shortbread were there to greet you. Music was very important to Mary and she sang in various church choirs, including Church of the Epiphany, for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Sweet Adelines in the late 1980's. The family spent many happy times going to musicals, movies, and pantomimes and singing their hearts out whenever possible. It's very fitting that Mary died peacefully during family and friends singing Amazing Grace. Friends and family will be gathering at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 9th at the Church of the Epiphany. In recognition of Mary's amazing life, a Jubilee will be held at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Mary's name to the Church of the Epiphany or the Oakville Trafalgar Volunteer Association.
