No. 897106845RR0001 Ontario Premier Doug Ford stopped by Troy's Diner in Mil- ton on Wednesday, Aug. 29 to an- nounce the impending removal of the carbon tax from natural gas pricing. Ford, who was accompanied by Milton MPP Parm Gill and Ontario Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines Greg Rickford, said that as of Oct. 1, 2018, natural gas bills would no longer include the car- bon tax and any overcharges for the cap-and-trade carbon tax would be refunded to customers. The government said the re- moving of the carbon tax means a reduction of approximately 3.3 cents per cubic metre on the price of natural gas for Ontario consumers. The measure is expected to save consumers about $80 a year and small businesses about $285 a year. "That's money that will stay in your pocket," said Ford. "We promised to lower the cost of living in Ontario. Promis- es made. Promises kept. Reduc- ing energy cost is a key part of our promise to the people of On- tario. We will keep more money in your pockets than the govern- ment's pocket and we will also reduce costs for small business- es." Ford went on to say this ac- tion would save money for small businesses, allowing them to grow and invest in new equip- ment and hire new people from the local community.
