Selects ready to do battle After a series of try-outs, the Oakville m os quito select team has been determined. Weekly practices are proving the team will be a force to be reckoned with as they repre sent Oakville in five tournaments this summer. The tournam ents will take place in Brampton, Oakville, Clarkson, Niagara Falls and Richmond Hill. W hile the first two exhibition games o f the season against Brampton resulted in the boys going down to defeat, they fought back hard and showed great promise. A team outing to a recent Blue Jay game was a great way to start of the season. M any thanks to the team 's great sponsor, Bell Quick Change. Hornets have great finale to the season (Continued from page D4) Katharine Bingham. Another strong defensive game by Kyra Nabeta, Devon Middleton, Amanda Lynam and Jennifer Cutter. Laura Roadhouse and Anne-Marie Witko again produced a fine com bined goaltending effort for the win and tourna ment victory with a record of three wins and one loss. Oakville opened the tournament June 12 against the very same Pittsburgh Iceburghs, win ning 3-1. Heather Macdonald had a pair of goals and Tara Roszell a single. Assists went to Amanda Lynam, Tara Roszell, Heather Macdonald and Jennifer Cutter. Strong forechecking throughout the game by Jordana Lee and Devon Middleton produced several good opportunities in the Pittsburgh end. Jennifer Cutter, Amanda Lynam, Kyra Nabeta and Charlene Hare combined for a strong defensive effort. A strong appearance in goal by Anne-Marie Witko and Laura Roadhouse held Pittsburgh to one late third period goal for the win. Oakville won their second game on June 12 7- 0 over Pittsburgh Storm. Oakville dominated this game from the opening faceoff with pinpoint pass ing and pressure in all three zones, holding the Pittsburgh squad to just two shots. Anne-Marie Witko and Laura Roadhouse shared the shutout. Goals were scored by Devon Middleton (2), Heather Macdonald (2), Jordana Lee, Amanda Lynam and Charlene Lee. A strong offensive effort by Jennifer Kociuba, Jennifer Cutter, Kyra Nabeta and Tara Roszell produced the assists. Oakville played their best game of the tourna ment later on in the day despite coming out on the wrong end of a 3-1 verdict against Detroit Honeybaked. Oakville fell behind in the first peri od but managed to come back and win the second period on a goal by Amanda Lynam whose quick shot found the top comer, completely surprising the Detroit goalie. They could only manage a draw in the third period against a tough squad. The loss didn't stop Oakville from advancing to the final. Despite the loss, Anne-Marie Witko had an excellent game between the posts, making several key stops to keep her teammates in the hunt. The team is sponsored by Philthy McNasty's and Nottinghill Chiropractic.
