Rohn, or Ron Camilleri, combines his talent to transform into Elton John with some of Canada's best musicians to put on a show that is popular in the Unit­ ed States and Canada. The concert, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Oakville's St. Volodymyr Cultural Cen­ tre (SVCC) Banquet Hall, is a fundraiser for Crime Stoppers of Halton, which is presenting the event. Every note of Elton Rohn's concert is played live. Cole will sign purchased copies of his latest book, The Whisky King: The Remark­ able True Story of Canada's Most Infamous Bootlegger and the Undercover Mountie on His Trail, at the Oakville Conference Centre at 2525 Wyecroft Centre on Thurs­ day, March 22. Registration and a cash bar is available starting at 6 p.m. with dinner and speaker set for 7-9:30 p.m. The cost is $40 for mem­ bers and $50 for nonmem­ bers. Cole's first non-fiction book is the result of two years of research poring over thousands of old news­ papers, books and archival documents. It quickly hit the Canadian bestseller list. It tells the story of two Italian Canadians, Rocco Perri, the little Calabrian based in Hamilton who be­ came Canada's biggest boot­ legger in the Prohibition era, and Frank Zaneth, the northern Italian who be­ came Canada's first under­ cover Mountie. Cole was a journalist at the Globe and Mail for 14 years before he started writ­ ing novels in 2000. His first two books were finalists for the Governor-General's Lit­ erary Award and his third, Practical Jean, won the Ste­ phen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour. Reservations are re­ quired.
