As Insp. Derek Davis succinctly explains, "If you want to catch more salmon, you put more bears in the river. Our en hanced enforcement tac tics place more bears in the river." The significant in crease in impaired arrests and suspensions can be at tributed to our efforts to continuously identify and employ new approaches to impaired enforcement, which are supported by an increasingly vigilant com munity in terms of report ing suspected impaired drivers to police. In 2017, road users with in our region reported 165 drivers who were subse quently located by police and arrested for impaired driving. It is remarkable to think that more than a third of our impaired in vestigations can be attri buted, at least in part, to our community. Community safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage residents and visitors to continue to work with us to reduce im paired driving. Our work to reduce im paired driving, however, doesn't end there. Impaired driving and road safety remain priori ties in 2018. Our goal is to ensure our enforcement is tightly aligned with the is sues we are facing. The community de serves and demands our best, and in this regard, we will continue to seek op portunities with our part ners to mitigate risk, im prove prevention messag ing and promote social de velopment with our municipal and health partners.
