Emergency respite care (Continued from page 5) July 1, 1993, available on a user pay basis at $75 per day. Now these beds are subsidized at $26 per day (on a sliding scale) with family contributions based on ability to pay. "The change to the new system has created anxiety for service providers and confusion among users," states the proâ€" posal. Emergency respite would be proâ€" vided in the proposed centre. Although mainly a project of the Haltonâ€"Wentworth Alzheimer Society and Glen Abbey United Church, other organizations, including those currently providing services to the cognitively impaired, have become involved. The caregivers at the centre will most likely be the Victorian Order of Nurses (Halton VON), currently a coâ€" sponsor and provider, with support from Red Cross home support workers. The Alzheimer Society would take change of the centre‘s design, and the church group will look after promotions, community awareness and fundraising. "The Halton Roman Catholic Separate School Board (which has St. Ignatius of Loyola High School across the street) has indicated its support and expressed in interest in that it provides an opportunity for community service and coâ€"op placements for students." In response to a letter writing camâ€" paign to local service clubs, positive response has come from May Court, Zonta . and the Oakville Rotary Club. Those wishing to find our more about this project, or lend their support, may call Bruce Francis of Glen Abbey United Church, at 905â€"827â€"0691, or Mary Everett at the Haltonâ€"Wentworth Alzheimer Society at 905â€"637â€"1338.
