There will be one instructor per eight students, but Elphick says volunteers will also be assisting the instructors. They will work on a one on one with children who need extra help. Fullâ€"day camps run for a week from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. with a supervised lunch. She has put together a team of six camp instructors. Four are university students, one is a qualified teacher, in addition to Elphick, who has worked with the Centre for six years. ‘"The kids will write their own script and record their own movie," said Elphick. ‘"Then, they will put computer graphics into the movie by using the program." Besides programing, there will be instruction in computer graphics, deskâ€" top publishing, and animation. CD ROMS have also been added to the proâ€" gram this year. Grades 7 to 9 students will be proâ€" ducing a video using a program called VCR Companion. Every student will have access to a computer at all times and will use Halton Board of Education software. "Each day, students will work on a base program language; EZ Logo for the youngest and Basic for the oldest group," she said. "It teaches them logiâ€" cal thinking and problem solving by breaking things into steps." Elphick promises the summer proâ€" gram will be educational and fun. From July 11th to Aug. 19th, the Centre will run oneâ€" and twoâ€"week camps for children entering Grades 1 to 9 in September. Although Munn‘s Public School is not yet confirmed as the permanent home of the Centre, this summer‘s comâ€" puter camp will be held in the school‘s gymnasium. Elphick expects the new location will be an improvement over the New Central setting because all of the computers will be located in one area. She added the Centre will borrow 56 Apple IIgs and MciIntoshes from Halton Board of Education schools for the sumâ€" mer computer camp. again, said Elphick, because all the comâ€" puters will remain at New Central Public School. WOTAR is charging $10 per household for the day‘s festivities and barbecue, which will include allâ€" beef hot dogs and drinks, as well as, popcorn and freezies for the chilâ€" dren. Guest of residents are also invited and will be charged $5 each. Activities include a decorated bicycle and stroller parade, a tug of war, and fishing pond. There will be face painting, a clown and lots of games, raffles and prizes for the whole family.
