Oakville Galleries won for Richard W illiam Hill P ractical Ornaments: Structure and In fra structure in the Landscape. The OAAG awards are the only annual, ju ried, peer-assessed awards of their kind, cele brating the outstanding achievement, artistic merit and excellence in arts institutions and professionals in the public art gallery sector. This is what the jury said about Oakville Galleries' work: "W illiam Hill, P ractical Ornaments: Struc ture and Infrastructure In T he L an d scap e essay offers an alternate narrative of Canadian in frastructure from an Indigenous perspective. "Hill's own Indigenous history and auto biographical meditation on place illuminates the exhibition and provides a multiplicity of perspectives. It stimulates a re-reading of the histories of other places -- the unspoken his tories that dwell in the juxtapositions of util ity and land in each of Young and Giroux' s photographs." More than 125 galleries were nominated. The OAAG is a registered charitable orga nization that serves as a voice for public art galleries and art museums in the province of Ontario.
