And one of the BEST Family Restaurants and Seniors Favorites Saturday Nov. 18. Firefighters have issued a special call for gifts and gift cards suitable for boys and girls between the ages 11 and 15. The need for this age group is highest this year. "Every child wants to feel the excitement of opening their own gift during the holidays," said Michelle Pommells, President and CEO of Home Suite Hope, in a press release. "The gift cards and toys collected during the annual Oakville firefighters toy drive help bring joy to so many children and youth who would otherwise go without over the holidays." Carmen Santoro, President of the Oakville Professional Firefighters Association, said 25 years ago a tradition began when one firefighter took up a gift collection to bring holiday cheer to children and youth in the care of child and family service organizations. "Our team has continued to build on this important tradition, and last year the drive provided gifts to 3,284 children and youth in need," said Santoro. "Our sincere thanks go out to the Oakville community for their ongoing support in making sure every child and youth in our community has an opportunity to unwrap a holiday gift." All donations will be distributed directly to local families, institutions and community agencies supporting children and youth. Some gift ideas for the i f to f5 year old age group include gift cards, sports equipment, electronics, posters, calendars, journals, school supplies, backpacks, clothing (winter hats and gloves), jewelry, hair accessories, cosmetics, blankets, shower products, movies and movie passes. Residents interested in donating gifts during the Santa Claus Parade can do so by dropping the gift off in the truck as the firefighters pass by in the parade. Community groups and corporations are encouraged to organize their own toy drives to support the Oakville firefighters toy drive. For more information email toydrivef582@ gmail.com.
