First Student is staging the hiring event on Thursday, Aug. 10 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at its Burlington depot at 5401 Dundas St., west of Tremaine Road. The company says it has a "critical need" for school bus drivers for Burlington and Oakville. Prospective drivers can get behind the wheel of a bus, alongside a First Student trainer, in the company' s parking lot. Participants don' t need a commercial driver' s licence or previous training for the event. First Student needs bus drivers for Halton Student Transportation Services, the consortium that serves the Halton public and Catholic school board. More than 30,000 students are bused each day during the school year. To be hired by First Student, drivers must be at least 21 years old, pass background checks and a drug screening, have at least three years driving experience and have a valid driver' s licence.
