Halton BFI Co-Chair Sonya Myles, w ho is a registered nurse and internationally certified lactation consultant, led the project. Myles said Halton BFI saw the breastfeeding cutouts done by other groups around the world -- through social media -- and thought the cutouts seem ed like a really good way to normalize breastfeeding, particularly in public areas. Halton BFI, a non-profit volunteer based organization, works collaboratively w ith the com m unity to ensure families have access to good breastfeeding support. Earlier this year, Halton BFI recruited local mothers for a life-size breastfeeding cutout campaign. Myles said they posted a notice for m odels on Halton BFI' s Facebook page and were really surprised how quickly m om s responded. They had 15 m om s and 16 nurslings. Myles transformed her dining room into a studio and Pat and Billy Ivy, of the Nursing M oms Project, did the photography "It was great," said Myles, adding, "They do amazing w ork." "It was a great experience," Myles said. "We were thrilled w ith the cutouts." Eight m om s were selected for the initial phase of the project. A launch event was held in May: goo.gl/whDtPZ. During World Breastfeeding W eek, people can see the cutouts at: Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Joseph Brant Hospital, Central Branch of the Oakville Public Library and Burlington Public Library. M oms are also invited to have their picture taken with any of the cutouts, send Halton BFI the photo, along with the hash tag #HBFIWGI for a chance to w in a Halton Parks Family Membership Pass from Conservation Halton. In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, Halton BFI w ill also be holding a free family outdoor picnic on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Lowville Park in Burlington, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Organizers are asking people w ho want to attend the picnic to please register on Eventbrite.
