Friday, December 10, 1999 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER 7 D rive r charged in Q E W fatality A 20-year old North York woman is facing charges in connection with last month's bizarre fatality on the QEW near Kerr Street. In the aftermath of the Nov. 22nd collision, a 57-year old Hamilton truck driver was dead while another woman was taken to hospital. The force of the 5:30 a.m. collision sent a tractor trailer careening off the bridge at Kerr Street and down the embank ment while the car came to rest on the roadway below. The eastbound highway was closed for a day as crews sal vaged the damaged transport truck from its precarious posi tion off the Kerr Street overpass. According to the OPP's Burlington Detachment, the 1996 International tractor trailer driven by Ross Merrill Swim of Hamilton was traveling eastbound when it collided with a 1998 Volvo driven by Timpson Luk of North York. The Volvo went airborne and landed on Kerr Street below the highway while the truck slammed down the embankment on the south side of the QEW. Swim, the transport driver, died as a result of his injuries. Connie Chan, 20, a passenger in the Volvo, was transported to OakvilleTrafalgar Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries. She was later transferred to Trillium Hospital and released last weekend. Luk has been charged with danger ous driving causing death and danger ous driving causing bodily harm.
