Predeceased in 2004 by his beloved w ife Irene, Vlad w ill be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his daughter Iva (Garfield), son Mirko (Janet) and grandchildren Jillian and Martin. Vlad was born in 1923 in the form er Czechoslovakia. A profoundly decent man, he was known and respected throughout his life fo r his generosity and integrity, and for never hesitating to speak the truth even when it was personally risky to do so and fo r which he was persecuted throughout his academic career at the Prague Technical University. Vlad was a loyal friend, mentor and colleague to countless people, on personal as well as professional level, in many corners o f the world. He was proud o f his fam ily heritage but equally grateful fo r the opportunity in 1969 to start w ith his family a new life in Canada. Until his retirement in 1988 as Supervisor o f Analytical Services at INCO Research Laboratory in Mississauga, Vladimir was held in high esteem, both professionally and personally, by his colleagues and management at INCO. It gave him great satisfaction that his deep knowledge o f analytical chemistry was acknowledged worldw ide when he represented INCO and Canada at International Standards Organization (ISO) task group meetings and conferences, even after his retirement. But then he always marvelled that he was actually paid for doing work that was a hobby to him !
