Oakville defeated Fergus-Elora 9-0 in the championship game after blanking Mount Hamilton 2-0 to earn a spot in the final. Ben Kowal scored two goals in the final, with singles going to Jack Walker, Oscar Kowalczyk, Aaron Mohamid, Andre Timoteo, Femi Aladetimi, Stefan Patroi and Jude Corr. Earlier, Oakville defeated Athletico Heads Soccer Club 7-0, Flamborough Dundas 2-1 and Fergus-Elora 3-0. The 3-0 loss dropped the Blue Devils' record to 8-2 in the W est Di vision standings, two points behind the undefeated Sigma FC. Durham United scored all of its goals in the second half. Oakville is back in action Sun day, July 9 in Toronto against Skillz FC. Attawapiskat/Oakville sports exchange starts today A bantam boys' hockey team from Attawapiskat is visiting Oakville today (Thursday) through Sunday to play in a hockey tourna m ent and visit area landmarks. Players from Attawpiskat and Oakville will form two teams rather than play against each other. The tournament brings Indigenous and ur ban youth together. It' s part of the Oakville Hockey Cares pro gram, w hich received the honour of being the first recipient of funding from Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Funding. Downie, frontman for the Tragically Hip, has an incur able form of brain cancer. He may make an appearance if he is feeling w ell enough. W hile in Oakville the Attawapiskat youth w ill be housed at Sheridan College and tour the facility. They w ill also experience a "D is cover Oakville" Day, m eeting Mayor Rob Burton, shopping at Oakville Place mall and later taking a trip to Toronto' s Hockey Hall of Fame. The Oakville team will visit Attawapiskat in November to learn firsthand about the Cree culture and play more hockey. The exchange aspect along with education was the key in being chosen by the D ow nie/ Wenjack board.
