Ungar, 25, set his second Guin ness jumping m ark on Tuesday, exactly one year after achieving his first. He pretty m uch knew his at tempt at a one-leg jum p would be a record-setter since he kept annihi lating the current mark of 39 inches in practice. At the Mississauga One Health Club where he works, Ungar broke the old record of 39 inches by reaching 4 1 , 51 and finally, switch ing to his left leg, 53 inches. He was using his "other" leg be cause on Ungar' s first unsuccessful attempt at 53 inches he suffered a gash on his right shin that warrant ed five stitches once his jumping was completed. Last year, attempting to set a Guinness record for the highest two-legged jum p onto a platform, he bettered the previous m ark of 5 9 .8 inches by reaching 6 1 .5 , then 6 3 .5 inches (about 1.6 metres m et rically speaking). Ungar, a five-foot, 10 1/2 inch personal fitness trainer, admits that the only benefit of setting the record may be getting his name in the GW R books once docum enta tion is completed, but he is already contemplating other marks to break. Oakville gym trio helps Ontario to gold, silver m edals Three Oakville gymnasts helped On tario teams win gold and silver at the Eastern Canadian championships in Sackville, N.B. earlier this month. Members of the Oakville Gymnastics Club' s Elite 4 men' s artistic team, the trio includes Jayson Rampersad, 13, Keagan Mulvey, 12, and Nathan W u, 13. Gymnastics Ontario sent two Elite 4 teams to the Sackville meet, which also featured gymnasts from New Bruns wick, Nova Scotia and Quebec. Rampersad and Mulvey were on the gold-medal winning team. Rampersad, a Grade 8 student at St. John Paul II elementary school, placed sixth overall, earning a silver medal for parallel bars and bronze medals for pommel horse and horizontal bar. Mulvey, in his first year in Elite 4, is a Grade 7 student at Ecole Secondaire Ste Trinite. He placed eighth overall with a fourth-place finish on floor and fifth place on both parallel bars and horizontal bar. W u' s team brought home the silver medal. The Grade 8 student at Ecole Secondaire is also in his first year in Elite 4. He placed 10th all around and came in fifth on pommel horse. The boys train 20 -2 3 hours a week on skills and routines and also prepare for two compulsory events (strength and flexibility). This season, they attended two na tional camps (one in Saskatchewan, the other in Montreal) and competed at three provincial pre-qualifiers lead ing up to Gymnastic Ontario' s MAG provincials in Toronto last month. At provincials, Rampersad placed third all-around, winning two gold medals for rings and horizontal bar, and a bronze medal on parallel bars. Mulvey came in fourth all-around, winning two silver medals for his per formance on rings and parallel bars. W u placed ninth all-around, win ning a bronze medal on rings.
