While the food bank welcomes donations of all items, it particularly needs cans of chunky stews, fruit and peas, as well as peanut butter, diapers (Size 6) and tins of salmon. More recently, it is also asking for more dona tions of organics, gluten-free, kosher and halal foods. Monetary donations are also accepted, as the cash is crucial to the food banks operations, ac cording to Fare Share. Cash donations are used to buy perishable food items, such as chicken, ground beef, ham, fish, cheese, fresh and frozen vegetables and fruit. Fare Share accepts donations all year round but traditionally holds two major food drives a year -- at Easter and Thanksgiving, as well as accepting items at Christmas. The food bank depends on the Easter drive to re-stock its shelves following the winter months and get clients through the spring and summer when donations traditionally decrease with sum mer vacations taking place. The Thanksgiving drive re-stocks after sum mer and puts food items in place to last through the winter. Asked for a shopping list of items people could consider donating, Fare Share provided the fol lowing: Children's snacks -- raisins, apple sauce, fruit cups, puddings Hygiene products - tampons, body wash, lo tions, soap bars Baby items -- formula, cereal, biscuits, diapers (Size 6) General items -- canned fruit, canned pasta with meat, regular and peppermint tea, perco lated coffee, hot and cold cereal Diabetes-related diet needs -- sweetener, fruit packed in water, Glucerna, reduced sugar syrup and jam Other donations needed -- organics, glutenfree, kosher and halal food items.
