D4 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, August 2, 2000 Demons atop South Region league The Oakville Demons U-10 girls rep team are in their first year of competitive soccer and have achieved many fine results, thus far. They are currently at the top of the South Region Soccer League for girls U-10 with seven wins and one loss, outscoring their opponents 246 . The Demons have also displayed strong and skillful soccer to reach the championship of all four tournaments they have entered. They were finalists against London Supernova in the London Early Bird Tournament in May (02), champions in the Burlington tournament against Brams United (2-1) in June, champions of the Cambridge tournament over Markham (2-0) and finalists in the North Mississauga tournament, defeated once again by the experienced London Supernovas (0-1). They are heading to the semifinals of the South Region Soccer League Cup after defeating Kitchener Spirit 2-1 in the quarterfinals on July 29. Devils look to keep undefeated string alive a t hom e tourney The Oakville Devils U-10 all star girls soccer team are undefeated in tournament play so far this season, notching tournament victories in Flamborough and North Mississauga. The Devils next major challenge will be the Oakville all-star tournament to be held over the August 19-20 weekend. The Am bassadors of running The Running Company, for the past several years, has sponsored an `Ambassador Program' in which it sponsors local runners. It's unique in that finishing times aren't the main criteria. Rather, as the program suggests, it's about their passion for the sport and their willingness to help others at the grass roots level. Many of the members participate in the many Running Company clinics and are also available as guest speakers. Here is this year's Ambassador Running Team. Put Mark and Dean's friend Cindy Bower into the mix and you have without question one of the most experienced and knowl edgeable team's of Hockey School and skat ing instructor's around anywhere! The on-ice hockey skills and drills have been totally revamped by Dean and Mark, introducing new cutting-edge drills and tips for all. Whether you're new to the game or an experienced "Allstar", you will benefit from this year's program. Our gameplan is to run a camp which is "extremely orga nized in a very fun-filled supervised atmos phere." The kids will be grouped according to age and ability and will be challenged continuously throughout the camp in a vari ety of activities. Some of these activities include slowpitch, floor hockey, basketball, soccer, baseball, proper stretching tech niques, movie hour and on and on. On the ice, there will be a practice in the a.m. and a game during the p.m. session. Our guest, Cindy Bower will be running a couple of power skating mornings as a special for the kids. The kids are divided into six teams and scores and standings are kept throughout the camp with awards going to the winning teams in both divisions. Parents will receive an itinerary prior to camp explaining what the kids will be taught, what to bring, and some of the rules and regulations of the camp. Normally the kids will bring their own lunch except for MacDonald's day which will be announced prior to. The camp runs from: AUGUST 14th to 18th and 21st to 25th. The times: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
