The sponsors, D ofasco, get their name out there; the charities get the money; and the actors are doing what they love," says Hicks. `T h a t's the wonder ful thing about actors - they're driven by passion. They love what they do. And every actor has som e free time. `T h ere's a lot o f downtime in this business. Instead o f waiting tables, why not put our talent together and raise money and have som e fun with it?" asks Hicks, w ho is a singer/actor in her own right. H icks was enrolled in Sheridan C ollege's M usical Theatre Program before heading east to perform in Anne o f Green Gables at the Charlottetown Festival. "Then I became the commercial queen. I was the Ivory Girl," she says. `T h en I was in A Chorus Line in Hamilton. And I still do com m er cials." H ow ever, as co-producer o f Enchanted Evening, Hicks says she does all the dirty jobs. But, she doesn't seem to mind. The OTHS graduate says tomor row 's concert is being presented in memory o f her mother, who died last year. "Her favourite song was You'll Never Walk Alone, and w e w ill close the show with that song," she says. "It will be an em otional time." "We raised over $20,000," Hicks recalls. "One year, to the date, the lit tle girl died." The second charity show that the new company presented, titled Lead ing Ladies, was held at Toronto's W in ter Garden with proceeds going to the W om en's C ollege Hospital Founda tion. Now, number three, held this w eek end in Hamilton, will raise m oney for the CHML Children's Fund and the Greater Hamilton Food Share - a co l lective o f six emergency food centres, serving over 27,000 hot m eals per month. And plans are already in the works for three more shows. One o f the three w ill take place in M o o se Jaw, Saskatchewan, the hometown o f A lli son's husband, Kevin Hicks, and will benefit that com m unity's Heart Reha bilitation Centre. Another, in Calgary, will raise money for kids with cancer. And the third, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, is still on the drawing board.
